Part 3, At the WV Pumpkin Festival with my RMS friends!

Wednesday, October 8, 2008

They're Here! Part 2 of my visit with some RMS friends!

Making everyone feel at home, was my first priority! Winnie found herself a nice pillow on Jacqui's foot. So I knew they would feel safe with her around!

Getting the guest bathroom ready for 4 women to share....making sure I had enough towels for the weekend, wash clothes, lotions, soaps, shampoo/conditioner....etc!

Everyone got their own name tag

Bath gels and lotions from Bath and Body!

Finally ....they arrived!
The tour started.....they all had to see for themselves... if my house really looked like it did on RMS!

First thing ....Christy picked up a rocker and "rearranged" my living room! At least that is what she told me. Then I over heard..... they had a U-Haul coming the next day, to pick up the furniture!

Taking a look at the remade family room.
Candy bars and kisses on every corner....I wanted to make sure they didn't get hungry!

I put this old fence as a partition behind the armiore...so the back didn't show.

After a good night sleep....I fixed my famous Sat. morning breakfast.....
Eggs over easy, home made buttermilk biscuits, fried potatoes, sausage gravy with real cream, bacon, and real butter...I did remove all the extra calories first!

After breakfast we got ready and went shopping! Our first stop....a Yard/Garage sale, at this lovely home! We all loaded up on the bargains here!

They had some great stuff too!

After the yard sale....we stopped at Cornucopia....a very unique gift shop. Then I drove them to downtown Charleston. They were not used to our hills and hollers! I think my driving scared them!

We were back home by late afternoon.

Waiting for them when they walked in....were
fiestaware, mugs and saucers filled with an assortment of coffees, teas, ciders, etc. from my sister , Donna . She said she wanted all of them to have something made in West Virginia to take home. Donna also had some "White chili" fixed for lunch! It was great...and sure a treat!

Then it was time for the "Cooking Lesson". So I put on my home made (of course) apron, and got out the recipe to "No Bake cookies"

My 71 year old mom joined us also!

( Isn't she cute....she just lost a bunch of weight with Weight Watchers....Why can't I....never mind!

Making a batch of no bake cookies starts with 1/2 cup real butter, 1/4 cup cocoa, 1/2 cup milk, and 2 cups of sugar. Bring this to a boil. Boil for 1 minute. Take off the stove and fold in 3 cups of oatmeal. Add 1/2 cup of Peanut butter, and 1 teas. of van. Stir. Spoon into small muffin tins, or on wax paper. Let cool. EAT.....Then make another batch!

My sister, Donna....also sharing the kitchen with me as she prepares her "White Chili".

"Make sure to only use the freshest ingredients"

Be sure and check later...... for part 3 with my visitors from RMS!

I've been, too busy to blog! Part 1 getting ready.

I have been getting ready for a visit....4 friends from RMS were coming to spend the weekend with me, here in West Virginia!

So that meant cleaning top to bottom, (which took about a month!) I met
Christy , (christyg427 ) Nan,(stardesign ...also has a blog,
On my Porch ) Jacqui, and Jan all on RMS! (We also got together in TN....this summer.)

After getting the house "spic and span", I had to figure out where I would put everybody. I had plenty of room...so I started "making" beds. First, I turned over this shelf, (my hubby made for me).... on it's front side, after removing everything, since it was very sturdy.

I found the end of an old crib, to use as the head board.
I stuffed blankets into the open part of the shelf....so the mattress would not fall into the hole.

I added a blow up mattress, sheets, pillow and a quilt....and I had my first bed ready.

This bed was also ready for company.

Next ...I turned my family room into 2 rooms , by dividing the room with the armoire,
....and adding 2 more homemade "beds".

I had the foot boards of 2 old twin beds, but not the head boards. I also needed bed springs. So I visited my local junk store...... and sure enough, they had 2 twin bed springs! I paid $5.oo for each one. Then I needed 2 head boards ....I got out 4 old dinning room chairs, placing 2 of them side by side. Then I put the bed springs on top, making sure it was level, I attached the springs to the foot boards. I have 2 old mattresses I keep for when the grand kids come...so I put one on each of the beds. I laid on top to try it out....it worked!

The bed rooms turned out great...and the girls seemed to love them!

Next I prepared food for the first night. Vegetable beef soup, cornbread, and 4 kinds of cookies., fruit and cut up veggies.

The patio was ready , and waiting

3 of the gals came from Michigan, and 1 from Indiana. They got here Friday evening, around 7:30.

~Hard work and poison Ivy~

I'm back! I haven't had time to blog....I've been busy!
Labor Day weekend turned into Labor day week!

I have been missing....but I have the proof of my where abouts!
Last weekend ...I ask for help taking down the shutters. I wanted
to paint them, and wash the siding. This has not been done for several years!
The first thing was to get the ladder and stand by with wasp killer!

While I was washing the house down/....Hubby got out the chain saw....and

cut back all the trees.

Then he "roughed" up the yard, where it was bare....and planted grass seed.
Then covered it with straw.

a>

We bought new mulch ....so I could refresh the old. I dug up the old bulbs...cut down the summer plants, like the hostas, and iruses. I pulled every weed, and picked up every trig, after Hubby drug the big stuff away.

It sure opened up the yard....now I can see down the road.

This is the road to get to our house.

I have washed every window, painted all the trim and exterior doors.

I hope this doesn't make you jealous....my outside work is done!

Oh...and I'm covered with poison IVY!

~Name that junk~

Here are few pieces ( of junk) that I have found and turned into something more usable. This is a bed, that I added an extra board, to the head board. In the bottom of the board were holes that just fit the pegs. Can you guess what this used to be part of?

A piano! I had the opper "tune" ity to take apart an old piano before it went into the fire. This board was across the front.
This isn't the same piano...but it is very much like the one I took apart.

One of the "legs" What could I make out of this?

I'm still wondering!

This was across the bottom of the piano. I think it looks like a secret door!

This little outdoor coffee table was made from the bottom of an old treadle sewing machine. The top is a piece of mesh I found. These two were welded together.

I just love the look of this old crib head board. It belonged to my mother when she was a baby, and it was also mine when I was a baby. It has fallen apart over the years.... I wanted to display it. It is behind the commode.

This is an old trunk that I got at a yard sale, and I attached pulleys from a clothes line, to the bottom.

This idea I got from a gal on RMS. I made this trellis out of old crib springs.

This is a little country cabinet, that my dad found at a yard sale.

I took the back off and added a phone.

This is just an old rusty chair that had no back or bottom.
This is the back of a shutter....I added 3 star hooks.

Here a few more things just "hanging" around the house.
Waiting to be put to use!

My bucket of old, odd, tile....some day I will make something great out of these!

~A little Fall decor, in the middle of Junk!~

Since the leaves are starting to change around here....I thought it would be OK......to bring out some fall decor. (I' ll have more junk to show later.) I got some napkins the other day at Kohls....but decided to use them for place mats. . I like these colors. I took 2 of the napkins and made a pillow. So here is a look at my dinning room all decked out for Fall!

I got out my fake sunflowers from last year, and a few fake pumpkins and put this basket together for the table.

One thing about my house...is....it is always ready for fall!
I love the smells of the kitchen ...like warm sugar cookies, and baked apple pie.
My hutch is ready for fall with the golds and white dishes.
I just picked up the gold bowls and this gold pitcher at Kohls also.

Here is my dinning room "cartoon" style!

It's rusted, crusted old or busted!
